A brief look at the Cincinnati Public Schools' Board of Education's meetings, compiled by the Public Affairs Department.

Board members present: President Eve Bolton, Vice President Chris Nelms, Melanie Bates, Susan Cranley, Michael Flannery, Catherine Ingram and Eileen Reed
Superintendent Rosa Blackwell and Treasurer Jonathan Boyd attended.

The Board's meeting began at 7:10 p.m. in the Education Center, the district's headquarters in Corryville.

Students from Hoffman School led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance. Stacey Hill-Simmons is the school's principal.

Presentations

The Board officially thanked everyone who supported the tax-levy campaign that led to a victory at the polls on March 4 for Issue 10. A video used during the campaign was shown.
Julia Indalecio, manager of teacher programs, presented the newest group of teachers to earn certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards:

Principal Stacey Hill-Simmons spoke to the Board about Hoffman School's dual focus this year on continuing to improve academic achievement while creating a smooth transition for the upcoming merger with Parham School.

Board Action

APPROVED a resolution recognizing Issue 10 campaign supporters.

APPROVED the superintendent's recommendations including:

Moving Renee Rashad to principal at Douglass School from interim principal, effective March 11, 2008.
Moving Beth Ann Schnell to principal at Dater Montessori School from a position on the Instructional Support Team, effective August 1, 2008.

APPROVED six resolutions authorizing bidding to begin for:

Phase I — Environmental Remediation/Abatement (Bid Package No. 1) for new Academy of Multilingual Immersion Studies (AMIS) in Bond Hill
Loose Furnishings (Bid Package No. 7) for new Carson School in Price Hill
Phase I — Environmental Remediation/Abatement (Bid Package No. 1) for Clark Montessori High School in Hyde Park
Phase II Main Bid Packages for Hughes Center in University Heights
Loose Furnishing (Bid Package No. 8) for new Pleasant Ridge School in Pleasant Ridge
Site Work/Demolition (Bid Package No. 2) for old R.A. Taft High School in the West End

ACCEPTED the report of the Board's Finance Committee meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

ACCEPTED the report of the Board's Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

ACCEPTED the report of the Board's Partnership/Public Engagement Committee meeting on Thursday, March 6, 2008.

ACCEPTED the report of the Board's Student Achievement Committee meeting on Thursday, March 6, 2008.

APPROVED the treasurer's report.

The meeting adjourned at 9:07 p.m.

The Board's next regular meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at district headquarters, 2651 Burnet Avenue, in Corryville.

The Board will hold a special public meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
