The Cincinnati Public School District believes that student academic achievement is improved by providing a comprehensive program of school-sponsored athletic activities. These activities are administered by dedicated, competent and caring coaches, advisors and sponsors.
Athletics provide the following advantages:
A wide variety of athletic programs are sponsored at the district's high schools for both males and females. A listing of sports by school is available under "School Information." They range from the traditional sports such as football and baseball to the non-traditional sports of fencing and bowling.
Schools in the district belong to the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference, the Fort Ancient Valley Conference or the Miami Valley Conference and compete for both team and individual honors in league-sponsored interscholastic athletic competition throughout the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
More information about specific programs at each school may be obtained from each school's Athletic Director. A contact directory is available under "School Information."
The district offers interscholastic competition in football, volleyball, boys' and girls' basketball, baseball and track and field for students in grades 7 and 8 throughout the district. City Championship tournaments for football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and track and field are held each year. Contact your child's school for more information on the specific programs offered.
The Ohio State Department of Education does not permit organized, school-sponsored competition between schools for students in grades K-6. Some K-6 schools offer team competition for their students through outside organizations such as the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY) and the independent Southwest Ohio Basketball League. Please check with the administration at your child's school for specifics on the extracurricular sports programs available.
