Individual School Progress

Cincinnati Public Schools' $1-billion plan to rebuild or renovate all of its schools is creating an exciting collection of buildings uniquely designed to suit each campus and community. Check out our progress below. Schools are presented in the following construction order:

Facilities Master Plan

Aiken (New Construction/Existing Site)

(College Hill) — On November 27, 2006, the Board reduced the enrollment capacity of the school by 600 students in grades 7-12 for a total capacity of 1000 students. Summer 2011 students will move into the former Heinold building while Aiken is under construction. Construction began Spring 2011; finishes Summer 2013.

Rothenberg (Renovation & Addition)

(Over-the-Rhine) — Design under way for a renovated three-story 102,378 square-foot building for 550 students. Several lots purchased around existing school will enlarge campus for playground, green space and an 11,120 square-foot gymnasium. Students temporarily using building at 2120 Vine Street, Over-the-Rhine. Construction began Spring 2011; finishes April 2013.

Walnut Hills (Renovation)

(Evanston) — Renovation planned for a school with a capacity of 1900 students. About 30 North Wing classrooms will moved into modulars Spring 2011. Construction began January 2011; finishes Winter 2013-14.

Western Hills/Dater (Renovation)

(Westwood) — Students moved into temporary homes in 3 phases during Summer 2009 — in modulars on site and in Dater High School basement. Construction began September 2009 on schools for 1900 students. Renovation scheduled to finish: Western Hills Engineering, Spring 2011; Western Hills University, Summer 2012; Dater High School, Summer 2013.

Academy of Multilingual Immersion Studies — AMIS

(Bond Hill, 1908 Seymour Ave) - Construction bids out September 2008. Students moved August 2007 into temporary home at 7001 Reading Road, Bond Hill, until construction completed on a 63,032-square-foot school for 400 students. Demolition of existing building scheduled for Fall 2008. The new building opened August 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in February 2011.

Academy of World Languages (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Evanston, 2030 Fairfax Ave) — Construction completed on 84,144-square-foot school for 650 students. Building opened for students in December 2007. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in January 2008.

Bond Hill (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Bond Hill, 1510 California Ave) — Construction completed on 66,100-square-foot school for 450 students. Demolition of old building completed Summer 2006. New building opened for students in March 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in May 2008.

Carson (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Price Hill, 4323 Glenway Ave) — Construction completed on a 75,310-square-foot school for 550 students on current campus. Front annex building demolished July 2006 to make space for new building. Demolition of old two-story building began July 2008. New building opened for students August 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in May 2009.

Chase (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Northside, 4151 Turrill St) — Construction completed on a 67,274-square-foot school for 450 students. Students moved into new building February 2012.

Cheviot (Renovation)

(Cheviot, 4040 Harrison Ave) — Construction completed on a 74,000-square-feet school for 550 students. The addition was finished in November 2005. Students moved into the newly renovated building as of the first day of the 2006-07 school year, on August 22, 2006. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on November 2, 2006.

Clark (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Hyde Park) — Students moved August 2007 to 5425 Winton Ridge Lane, Winton Hills, until construction completed on a 102,174-square-foot building for 600 students. Demolition of old building completed April 2009. Construction to begin Summer 2010; finishes Summer 2011.

College Hill (Renovation & Addition)

(College Hill, 1625 Cedar Ave) — Construction bids out Fall 2008. Students moved August 2008 into temporary home at 1402 W. North Bend Road, College Hill, while work under way on a 31,734-square-foot addition for a final building of 101,732 square feet for 550 students. The renovated building opened August 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in October 2010.

Covedale (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Covedale, 5130 Sidney Rd) — Construction completed on a 66,100-square-foot school for 450 students. Demolition of old Covedale building completed Summer 2006. New building opened for students January 2009. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in May 2009.

Dater Montessori

(Westwood, 2840 Boudinot Ave) Construction completed on a school of 165,636 square feet for 650 students. The renovated building opened March 31, 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in May 2010.

Douglass (New Construction/New Site)

(Walnut Hills, 2627 Park Ave) — Construction completed on 74,000-square-foot school for 550 students. Building opened for students in August 2007. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in May 15, 2008.

Ethel M. Taylor (New Construction/New Site)

(Millvale, 1930 Fricke Rd) — Construction completed on a 66,100-square-foot school for 450 students. The building opened for students on January 3, 2007. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on February 1, 2007.

Evanston Academy (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Evanston) — Design approved for a 62,998-square-foot building for 450 students in a merged school on the Parham site. Parham students moved August 2008 into the Hoffman building, 3060 Durrell Avenue, Evanston, until construction finished. Demolition of Parham building scheduled for Summer 2009. Construction began October 2009; finishes Summer 2011.

Fairview-Clifton (New Construction/New Site)

(Clifton, 3689 Clifton Ave) — Construction completed on 84,144-square-foot school for 650 students on former site of Clifton School’s south building. Demolition of existing building completed January 2006. New building opened for students August 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in September 2008.

Hartwell (Renovation & Addition)

(Hartwell, 8320 Vine St) — Students moved August 2008 into temporary home at 125 W. North Bend Road, Carthage, while Hartwell building was renovated with a 7,000-square-foot addition (a gym) and final size of 84,100 square feet for 400 students. Construction work began May 2009. Students moved in October 19, 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in December 2010.

Hays-Porter (New Construction/Existing Site)

(West End, 1030 Cutter St) — Construction completed on 66,100 square-foot school for 450 students. Building opened for students in August 2007. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in December 2009.

Hughes High School (Renovation)

(University Heights, 2515 Clifton Ave) — Construction completed on the renovation of Classical Building for final size of 290,873 square feet for 1,200 students. Students moved August 2008 into Professional Building and an annex at back of campus while renovation work was under way. The annex will be retained for future expansion. The renovated building opened August 2010.

Kilgour (Renovation and Addition)

(Mt. Lookout, 1339 Herschel Ave) — Construction completed on a 23,630-square-foot addition and a full renovation of existing building for 450 students. New building opened for students August 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in September 2008.

Midway (New Construction/New Site)

(Westwood, 3156 Glenmore Ave) — Construction completed on a 76,800-square-foot school for 550 students in grades K-8 in August 2005. Students moved into new building in August 2005. Dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was September 2, 2005.

Mt. Airy (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Mt. Airy, 5730 Colerain Ave) — Construction completed on 84,144-square-foot school for 650 students. Demolition of old building completed Fall 2006. New building opened for students in March 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in October 2008.

Mt. Washington (Renovation)

(Mt. Washington) — Staff moved June 2012 into newly renovated building on former campus at 1730 Mears Ave, 45230. Students moved August 2009 into temporary home in the former Hyde Park building, 3401 Edwards Rd, until construction completed on the renovation. On November 27, 2006, the Board increased the enrollment capacity of the renovated school by 50 students for total capacity of 400 students. Construction began Summer 2010; finished June 2012.

North Avondale (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Avondale, 615 Clinton Springs) — Students moved August 2008 into temporary home at 876 Glenwood Avenue, Avondale, until construction completed on 85,470-square-foot building for 650 students. Demolition of existing building occurred February 2009. The new building opened October 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in October 2010.

Oyler (Renovation)

(Price Hill) — Newly renovated building at 2121 Hatmaker Street opened August 2012. Construction began Fall 2010; finishes July 2012.

Parker (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Madisonville, 5051 Anderson Pl) Construction completed on a 75,310-square-foot school for 550 students on Parker’s campus. New building opened for students August 2009. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in November 2009.

Parker Woods Montessori (formerly Winton Montessori) (New Construction/New Site)

(Northside) — The Winton Montessori building on Winton Road (formerly Winton Place School) will close when the Montessori school moves into a new building on the Schwab School site on Beech Hill Avenue. The building on the Schwab site will be demolished before construction begins on new three-story 86,008 square-foot Winton Montessori building built for 650 students. Construction began Fall 2010; finishes November 2012.

Pleasant Hill (New Construction/Existing Site)

Riverview East (New Construction/New Site)

(Columbia Tusculum, 3555 Kellogg Ave) — Construction completed on a 105,000-square-foot school for 615 students in grades K-12. Students moved into the new building on January 3, 2006. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on January 12, 2006.

Roberts (New Construction/Existing Site)

Rockdale (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Avondale, 335 Rockdale Ave) — Construction completed on a 86,160-square-foot school for 650 students in grades K-8. The new school is built on the site of the district's former Condon School. Students moved into new building on January 3, 2005. Dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was January 13, 2005.

Roll Hill (New Construction/Existing Site)

(North Fairmount, 2411 Baltimore) — Construction completed on a 84,000-square-foot school for 650 students in grades K-8. Old school building demolished December 2003-January 2004. Students moved into new building August 2005. Dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was October 6, 2005.

Roselawn Condon (Renovation)

(Roselawn, 7735 Greenland Pl) — Phase I completed February 2008 on the 550-student building. Phase II included new entrance and main office, and Phase III included work on the gym and a new art room. Renovated building opened for students August 2008. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in April 2009.

Sands Montessori (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Mt. Washington, 5130 Sidney Rd) — Construction completed on an 84,143-square-foot school for 650 students on Sands’ campus. Old building to be demolished when new one completed. The new building opened August 2010.

Sayler Park (Renovation)

School for Creative & Performing Arts (New Construction/New Site)

(Over-the-Rhine, 108 West Central Pkwy) — Construction completed on a 250,000-square-foot school for 1,350 students. Topping-out ceremony held September 2008. SCPA will combine in new building with Schiel Primary School for Arts Enrichment. The new building opened August 2010. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in September 2010.

Shroder (New Construction/New Site)

(Madisonville, 5030 Duck Creek Rd) — Construction completed on a 98,000-square-foot school for 600 students. The building opened for students on January 3, 2007. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in March 2007.

Silverton (New Construction/New Site)

(Silverton) — On November 27, 2006, the Board increased the enrollment capacity of the new school by 50 students for a total capacity of 400 students. Construction on this two-story 55,826 square-foot building began Spring 2010; finishes December 2012.

Westwood (Renovation)

(Westwood) — Newly renovated building at 2981 Montana Avenue opened August 2012 Students moved August 2007 into temporary home at 2601 Westwood Northern Blvd., Westwood. Construction began Summer 2010; finishes June 2012.

Winton Hills (New Construction)

(Winton Place, 5300 Winneste Ave) — Construction completed on a 66,001-square-foot school for 450 students in grades K-8. Students moved into new building August 2005. Dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was September 15, 2005.

Withrow High School (Renovation)

(Hyde Park, 2520 Madison Rd) — Withrow University moved into renovated north wings over Spring Break 2007. Withrow International moved into renovated south wings in April 2006. Gymnasium, kitchen and cafeteria completed the renovation in Fall 2006. Demolition of vocational building, renovation of stadium and completion of site work finished in August 2007.

Woodford (New Construction)

(Kennedy Heights) — A new building was built for a capacity of 550 students. Construction began December 2010; finished Spring 2012.

Woodward High School (New Construction/Existing Site)

(Bond Hill, 7005 Reading Rd) — Construction completed on a 261,870-square-foot school for 1,200 students with three wings designed for three career-technical programs. This is CPS’ first new high school building since 1962. Students moved into the new building as of the first day of the 2006-07 school year, on August 22, 2006. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 15, 2006.

Bloom (Discontinue Use)

Bloom closed June 2006.

Bramble (Discontinue Use)

Bramble closed spring 2005.

Burton (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Burton from the Facilities Master Plan. Burton closed June 2008.

Central Fairmount (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Central Fairmount from the Facilities Master Plan. The school closed and students were reassigned.

Gamble (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Gamble from the Facilities Master Plan. The school closed and students were reassigned. The building was being used as a temporary home of Westwood School while the Westwood building was renovated.

Gamble Montessori (Undetermined)

(Westwood) — (formerly called West Side Montessori) Students moved August 2007 into their temporary home at the former Jacobs Center, 5425 Winton Ridge Lane. On April 30, 2012, the Board approved funds for the renovation of the Gamble Montessori High School building, located at 2601 Westwood Northern Blvd. Renovation began Summer 2012; finishes August 2013.

Heberle (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Heberle from the Facilities Master Plan. The school closed and students were reassigned.

Hoffman (New Construction/New Site)

On November 27, 2006, the Board decided to consolidate Hoffman and Parham into one school, effective Summer 2008. Students are attending school in the Hoffman building while a new school is constructed on the Parham site.

Hyde Park (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Hyde Park from the Facilities Master Plan. Hyde Park School closed spring 2005. The Hyde Park building is being temporarily used by Mt. Washington School while its building is renovated.

Jacobs (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed the Jacobs building from the Facilities Master Plan. (The school closed and students moved to the Aiken campus in August 2005.) The building is being temporarily used by Clark and West Side Montessori schools.

Losantiville (Discontinue Use)

Losantiville closed spring 2005.

Military Academy (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed a new building for a military academy from the Facilities Master Plan.

Porter (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Porter from the Facilities Master Plan. (Porter School merged with Hays in Fall 2000 and was slated to be replaced with a new building. The original Porter building was demolished in 2004.)

Quebec Heights (Removed from Plan)

In February 2012, the Board removed Quebec Heights from the Facilities Master Plan. (Students had moved into the former Central Fairmount building in Summer 2010. A new 76,529 square-foot building was slated to be built on the existing site.)

Schwab (Removed from Plan)

The new building will become the new home of Winton Montessori School. On November 27, 2006, the Board reduced the enrollment capacity of the new building by 100 students. (Schwab School will close Summer 2008 and students will be reassigned.)

W.H. Taft Elementary (Undetermined)

(Mt. Auburn) — On November 27, 2006, the Board reduced the enrollment capacity of the renovated school by 50 students for a total capacity of 400 students. Construction dates not yet set.

Washington Park (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed Washington Park from the Facilities Master Plan. The school closed and students were reassigned. The building was demolished Fall 2007.

Whittier (Removed from Plan)

On November 27, 2006, the Board removed a new building for Whittier from the Facilities Master Plan. Students moved August 2006 into the new Rees E. Price School on Considine Avenue, Price Hill. The building was demolished January 2008.
