Education and Training

This diverse Career Cluster prepares learners for careers in planning, managing, and providing education and training services, and related learning support services. In the Education and Training cluster, a student has the opportunity to work with and train young people. The majority of teachers are employed by primary or secondary schools.

Before arriving at the classroom, teachers create lesson plans tailored to their students' levels of ability. They must be comfortable dealing with a spectrum of personality types and ability levels, and must be capable of treating their students fairly. As a teacher, a student will influence and mentor young lives every day.

A student also may choose to support the work of the classroom teacher as a counselor, librarian, or principal. If young people are interested in working with adults, they could provide training to employees in a business. Each of these settings provides a chance to help people learn and improve their lives.

As American labor continues to increase in skill so will the demand for workers in the Education and Training Cluster. Because to the large number of teachers expected to retire, the need for teachers is expected to increase. There is also a current shortage of highly qualified special education, math and science teachers across the nation.

Learners need a solid background in academic, technical and presentation skills. The educational background for a career in the Education & Training Cluster can begin in high school and continue in technical colleges, two-year community colleges, four-year colleges, internships at career technical schools or institutes, and human resource organizations.

There are three pathways in the Education & Training Career Cluster:
