Arts, AV Technology and Communications

This Kuder career cluster offers two different avenues of concentration. Careers in the performing arts, visual arts or certain aspects of journalism, broadcasting and film require courses and activities that challenge students' creative talents. Careers in audio-video communications technology, telecommunications or printing technology require strong backgrounds in computer and electronic-based technology and a solid foundation in math and science.

A SCPA student hones his keyboarding skills.

All pathways in this field require effective communication skills in both written and oral forms. The creative aspects of this cluster are becoming more technologically sophisticated, making this career field more challenging.

Working in this cluster would appeal to students who are strongly drawn to performing, who tend to see the world in terms of color and design, who enjoy expressing themselves through drawing and writing, who are fascinated by the artistic and technical results that can be achieved through computers, who feel strongly about affecting opinions through newspapers, radio or television, or who think entertainment is simply the business of the future.

Almost all of the careers in this cluster would require higher education. This could include special schools for technical skills, private lessons in acting or singing or attaining an associate's or bachelor's degree.

High-school courses would focus on art, music, writing, media, communications, design and computer technologies.

This cluster is broken into six pathways.
